Coronavirus infections have been much less in African countries as compared to Western countries. This probably reflects the young populations found in African countries. But the lockdowns occurring in response to Covid 19 are having major effect on routine childhood vaccinations. In response to Covid 19, routine care and prevention have taken a back seat. It is feared that as supply and delivery systems have broken down, and staff are shifted to treat covid 19, countries will see an marked increase in infectious diseases such as malaria and TB.
