DR CONNIE ON THE GUADALAJARA REPORTER:

FORMER SMALLPOX WARRIOR WONDERS IF LESSONS WERE LEARNED FROM PAST EPIDEMICS

April 23, 2020

During her career in public health, Dr. Cornelia (Connie) Davis tramped the byways of India and Africa for the likes of the World Health Organization and US-AID, sometimes blazing trails in leadership both for women and people of color.

Now, in her comfortable Lakeside home, although Davis sometimes chafes at the inactivity mandated by the Covid-19 lockdown, the crisis has caused her surprise and sadness. “Who knew that Covid-19 – not as infectious as SARS – would go on to cause a pandemic! It certainly threw a spanner into the celebration of 40 years of smallpox eradication,” which was set for the first week of June in Atlanta, then cancelled. Davis is sad that the lessons from the victory over the smallpox virus, which she was part of, may have been lost.

“Of course, we were bringing a vaccine, so that was very different from Covid-19. But even though the smallpox campaign was during the tension of the Cold War, there was still cooperation from everyone, including Russia.”

MASTERMIND RETREAT JACK CANFIELD’S HOME IN SANTA BARBARA

September 10-11, 2019

During two powerful days of “deep dive” mentoring and masterminding, eleven authors were mentored through creating a greater vision for our lives — one that delivers joy, excitement, and fulfillment.

Each author had the opportunity to sit in the “Hot Seat and present ourselves to the coaching team and the wider group of authors. We told who we were and presented our thoughts about where we wanted to go. Joining the person on the Hot Seat were Jack Canfield-esteemed originator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Patty Aubery, inspired President of The Jack Canfield Companies, and Steve Harrison, co-owner of Bradley Communications Corp and the Quantum Leap program that helps authors position themselves as experts.

After additional, probing questions from the coaches, we got a plethora of ideas and insights into where they thought we should go. They gave me personal input on my vision and how best to make it a reality. Even if you were not on the hot seat, there were many tips and teaching moments that were applicable for us all. Following your turn on the hot seat, that evening after dinner you were interviewed by Jack Canfield and it was captured on video!

Our group was very diverse, and I made personal friends that I plan to follow on their journey. During my time on the hot seat, a fellow author- Dr Clint Rogers – wrote a piece of poetry just on the spot! It’s called Boots from Istanbul and you can read it in the Journal section.
